Reflection: Mary Shea
Mental health is a topic that I have always felt very passionate about. I see the debilitating effects that stress and poor mental health have on my peers on a daily basis; this has always lead me to wonder: why is more not being done to fix this direly important issue? The opportunity that Project Citizen has provided myself and my teammates with is something that I find immeasurably valuable, and that is the opportunity to actually make a change regarding an issue that we care so deeply about. Coming together with a common passion, we hoped to get the conversation started regarding mental health. We put our heads together and began brainstorming feasible ways we can improve the current way in which this topic is dealt with in schools. Project Citizen has taught me that forming a comprehensive solution to a problem is much more than just a simple idea, it is seemingly endless planning, weighing pros and cons, as well as overcoming obstacles. Most importantly, it has taught me that all of the time and effort it takes is worth it when it comes to working towards a goal that you care about so sincerely.
